SEN Teaching Assistant

Pay Rate: £95–£115 per day
DBS Requirement: Enhanced DBS required or willingness to obtain one
About the Role
We are seeking a caring, patient and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a school in the Bradford area. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and helping them achieve their full potential.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and other support staff to provide tailored support to pupils who require additional assistance with their learning, communication, social development and emotional wellbeing.
The successful candidate will help create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every pupil feels valued and encouraged to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with Special Educational Needs.
- Assist the class teacher with delivering engaging and accessible learning activities.
- Support pupils with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health needs.
- Adapt activities to meet individual pupils’ learning abilities and requirements.
- Encourage positive behaviour, independence and social interaction.
- Help pupils manage their emotions and develop social skills.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive and nurturing classroom environment.
- Monitor pupils’ progress and provide feedback to the class teacher.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and the SENCO to support pupils’ individual needs.
- Follow safeguarding, child protection and health and safety procedures at all times.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEN or educational setting.
- A patient, caring and understanding approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
- A flexible and proactive attitude towards supporting individual learning needs.
- An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- An Enhanced DBS certificate or willingness to obtain one.
- A reliable, professional attitude and a genuine passion for supporting children’s development.
Relevant qualifications in education, childcare or Special Educational Needs would be advantageous.
