Best In Class
We are seeking a resilient SEMH Support Assistant to join a warm and nurturing primary school in the BD12 area of Bradford from December 2025. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and helping them to feel safe, understood and valued in school.
You will be working closely with a small number of children who may have experienced difficult or turbulent home lives and who require extra kindness, structure and emotional support during the school day. The role involves helping children regulate their emotions, develop trust and confidence, and engage successfully in their learning within a safe and supportive environment.
The school is a small, one-form-entry primary school with a close-knit, caring community where every child is known and valued. They are extremely proud of their inclusive ethos and the significant adaptions they have made throughout school to meet the varied needs of our pupils, including those with SEMH needs.
The staff team in school work collaboratively to create a calm, structured and nurturing atmosphere where all children can flourish. As part of a local cluster of schools, they are committed to sharing good practice, the school ethos and supporting one another as a wider educational community.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have relevant experience supporting children with SEMH or behavioural needs (essential).
- Hold a relevant qualification in child development, education or behaviour support (desired but not essential).
- Be kind, patient and empathetic, with a genuine passion for helping children reach their potential.
- Have the resilience and confidence to manage challenging situations calmly and consistently.
- Be able to set clear boundaries while maintaining a nurturing, supportive approach.
- Work effectively as part of a team and build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff and families.
