The Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role within this school by supporting and assisting pupils with a variety of special educational needs, guiding them to fulfil their academic successes. You will be collaborating and working closely alongside the SENCo, class teachers, SLT, and other support staff throughout the school, ensuring the support you provide is tailored specifically towards each child’s needs in 1:1 working or small group activities. Creating an engaging, inclusive, and dynamic working environment will be a great priority for you, ensuring it is accessible for all abilities.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students with SEN either on a 1:1 level or in small groups
  • Working following Individual Education Plans (IEP) to ensure students receive education tailored to them
  • Collaborating and working effectively alongside the class teacher, supporting behaviour management within the classroom while promoting healthy, safe, and positive peer interaction
  • Tracking and reporting progress of the students, providing useful feedback to school staff and parents
  • Creating positive and trusting relationships with students


You Will Need:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN
  • Excellent communication skills with great ability of working as part of a team
  • Strong ability to take initiative and take a positive approach to challenging situations
  • Carry an empathetic, caring, and kind personality, being able to provide feelings of comfort and safety to each child


Desirable Qualities:

  • Qualifications relevant to education, psychology, mental health, or child development
  • Knowledge of various SEN conditions/disorders supplied with appropriate support strategies
